Nestled in the village of Ringstead on The River Nene, the Water Mill Tearooms is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a spot of afternoon tea in Northamptonshire, and what better time to do so than Afternoon Tea Week? Set in a quaint, historic mill, where the original water wheels are still in working order and now turn to generate electricity for the building, the Water Mill has plenty of capacity with many walkers, cyclists and holiday makers visiting day to day.
To accompany the picturesque setting and cosy surroundings, the Water Mill offers a quintessentially British afternoon tea selection that changes daily, and which comprises of homemade cakes, scones, sandwiches and savoury tarts.
With such a fast-paced business, Iona and her team simply don’t have the time to make fresh pastry from scratch every day and using Pidy products allows them to focus on the finer details of presentation that really give the wow factor, Iona Campbell explains:
“Originally we did make our own cases but they are very fiddly and take up a lot of time. That’s when we started using Pidy ready-to-fill pastry. Having the pastry cases ready to go means that we can spend our time preparing the fillings rather than worrying about getting the pastry perfect every time. Having Pidy products available allows us to whip up quick treats that are really tasty and still have that homemade feel that we look for.”
Used for both the sweet and savoury elements of the Water Mill’s afternoon tea offering, Iona uses an extensive range of Pidy products and has had great feedback from customers:
“We use Pidy’s neutral products from the Trendy range to create our savoury tartlets. One real favourite is our mini cream cheese and pesto tarts which our customers always rave about and a lot of people come back for again. Customers often comment on how nice the flavour of the pastry is and its crisp texture. For the sweet element of our afternoon tea,we make a mojito style tartlet which combines homemade lime curd infused with mint leaves and a hint of rum for a true mojito taste. It’s really good fun to play around with the Pidy products and add a nice difference to our afternoon tea especially when customers are coming back time and time again.”
It’s clear to see that Iona’s creativity and her dedication to homemade, locally sourced menus is what makes the Water Mill’s afternoon tea offering so special:
"We like to keep our menu rustic and homely with our own little touches. Everything we create is made on-site and we like this to be reflected in our menu. We change our afternoon teas daily depending on what we have grown ourselves or can source locally so this very much impacts what we serve. We like to use seasonally available products and locally sourced where possible so our menu does vary.”
